Religion

I like the idea of gods and demons and angels and other supernatural beings. I think it would make the world more exciting if they existed. I have a statue of Saraswati on my desk, I have a pentacle on my car, and I tell most people that I’m a pagan. I just like the idea of it.

As religions go, I think the Abrahamic religions are as close to real evil as most religions get. Jehovah is a cruel, petty god, and of all the gods anyone can pick from, I don’t know why anyone would worship him. I like Jesus a lot better, but I wish people would pay more attention to what Jesus said and less to misogynistic jerks like Paul.

All that aside, I think that when we die, we die, like a light bulb burning out. The light doesn’t “go” anywhere. This isn’t a practice run, and there’s no magical ghost city in the sky. This is the only life you get, so you better make the most of it.

I think it’s important to be nice to people. I think it’s important for people to be allowed to control their own lives. I think it’s important to be patient and respectful of other people’s goofy religious beliefs, as long as they aren’t using those beliefs as an excuse to hurt or oppress other people. I believe all kinds of goofy things, myself, but I think it’s horrible for people to use the law or their religion as an excuse to steal from or oppress other people. Having a religion is no excuse for being a jerk.
