Socialism’s Last Redoubt
OpinionJournal - Outside the Box has an interesting article on Social Security. It should not surprise me that politicians are soulless hypocrites, but some of these details still struck me as surprising. Ah, well.
I have to wonder if the Democratic Party is on the way out. If I were an optimist, I would say that the two most popular political parties in 2025 will be the Libertarian Party and the Republican Party. But in reality, I think people are much too stupid for that. They forget the past, they forget the failures of socialism, they forget the misery caused by police states… people are like cats: lazy, easily distracted creatures who want nothing more than to be fed and pampered, and who consider such treatment their just reward for the simple act of existing. The difference is that I like cats.
Besides, political parties are for people who are too stupid to think for themselves. Issues? Who needs them? None of that tiresome thinking for me, I’ll just support the leader of my tribe. That’s what political parties are, really: tribes. They don’t mean any more than the tribes in Survivor: Democrat, Republican, Ulong, Koror… it’s all meaningless. You may as well pick one at random for all the difference it makes. But voting is meaningless, too, so what the hell. Voting is like signing a petition, or going to Mass: it’s a useless ritual that has no purpose other than to make the people doing it feel better.
I vote, of course. It makes me feel better.
