{"id":1582,"date":"2010-05-07T14:35:18","date_gmt":"2010-05-07T19:35:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blackgate.net\/blog\/?p=1582"},"modified":"2010-05-07T14:39:52","modified_gmt":"2010-05-07T19:39:52","slug":"greed-and-stupidity-arent-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blackgate.net\/blog\/greed-and-stupidity-arent-new\/","title":{"rendered":"Greed and stupidity aren&#8217;t new"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not too long ago, I made the observation that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1919_United_States_anarchist_bombings\">anarchists and mad bombers<\/a> aren&#8217;t new, that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duquesne_Spy_Ring\">spies and subversives<\/a> are not new. We have laws that deal with these offenses, and we should be using them, rather than looking for opportunities to deprive people (even <em>criminals<\/em> and <em>terrorists<\/em>, gasp, shudder!) of their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/05\/04\/faisal-shahzad-arrest-bec_n_562467.html\">civil rights<\/a>, or even of their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/05\/05\/liebermans-citizenship-re_n_564981.html\">citizenship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Well, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1416552154\/rpglibrary\/\">greed and stupidity<\/a> are not new, either, and there is no finer example of greed and stupidity than the endless battle of the media robber barons (the MPAA, the RIAA, and the rest of the Digital Rights Mafia) against the people who create and enjoy media (you and me, for example).
