The gist of his argument is that people dislike Starship Troopers because they don&#8217;t get that it&#8217;s satire. Critics gave it bad reviews because they didn&#8217;t get that it&#8217;s satire. People who complain about the plot, or the acting, or anything else don&#8217;t get that it&#8217;s satire.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/filmdrunk.uproxx.com\/2011\/06\/cinemas-most-overused-line-you-just-dont-get-it-do-you\">You just don&#8217;t get it, do you?<\/a> It&#8217;s satire.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, in fact, I do get it.<\/p>\n<p>First, critics are idiots. Anyone who needs to be told that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000UAFDP2\/rpglibrary\/\">Starship Troopers movie<\/a> is satire is an idiot &#8212; it&#8217;s <strong>obviously<\/strong> satire.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the reason why a lot of people dislike Starship Troopers is because, in addition to it being a stupid movie (it&#8217;s fun, but it <strong>is<\/strong> a stupid movie), it takes a classic work of science fiction and basically craps on it. It&#8217;s like making a movie based on The Jungle and turning it into a 90-minute hot dog commercial (and not a satirical one). Starship Troopers the movie is to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0441783589\/rpglibrary\/\">Starship Troopers the novel<\/a> as the Phantom Menace is to the original Star Wars.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Veerhoven can make good movies, and he has. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B003VS0CYC\/rpglibrary\/\">Robocop<\/a> was great fun. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000TGCR4C\/rpglibrary\/\">Black Book<\/a> is brilliant. But Starship Troopers is not one of those movies.
