Not yet, anyway. I have&#8230; concerns.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hAjL7g_-EoY\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Would President Trump do terrible things to our country? He appears to have every intention of doing so. His cabinet, this far, is full of <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2016\/11\/30\/news\/trump-cabinet-conflicts\/\">ultra-wealthy people<\/a>, united in their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/donald-trump-cabinet-appointments-lgbt-records-stances-president-elect-white-house-a7446886.html\">opposition to basic human rights<\/a> for my gay friends. His <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/11\/18\/politics\/donald-trump-world-leaders-calls\/\">grasp of international diplomacy<\/a> seems&#8230; lacking. Also, the next President will likely appoint several justices to the Supreme Court of the the United States, with ramifications for generations to come (the Court has <a href=\"http:\/\/billmoyers.com\/content\/famous-5-4-decisions-by-the-one-percent-court\/\">not exactly been a beacon of justice<\/a> in recent years, but I can&#8217;t imagine that it would get any better with justices appointed by Trump).<\/p>\n<p>But is getting rid of Trump enough reason to tell Americans (not just those who voted for Trump &#8212; <em>all<\/em> Americans), &#8220;No, your vote actually <strong>doesn&#8217;t<\/strong> count&#8221;? Is preventing the election of President Trump enough reason to start the next civil war? Or does permitting him to take office make that war inevitable? What will my nieces&#8217; and nephews&#8217; children say about us, thirty years from now? That we caused the war, or that we simply failed to prevent it?<\/p>\n<p>I rather like the idea of the electoral college making itself relevant by being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/posteverything\/wp\/2016\/11\/15\/in-defense-of-the-electoral-college\/?utm_term=.59fef3657208\">the voice of sanity it was <em>intended<\/em> to be<\/a>. But I find myself wondering at what point &#8220;the consent of the governed&#8221; becomes less important than &#8220;doing what we know is right&#8221;. It&#8217;s a very dangerous thing, to &#8220;know&#8221; that one is right.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, I know that this petition, like all such petitions, is absolutely meaningless. It&#8217;s an impotent and pointless gesture.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s how it always begins. <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cyM4me-h3JM\">Very small<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t signed this petition.
