But as anyone who has worked in customer service knows, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tickld.com\/wow\/2217879\/fbk50-service-industry-employees-reveal-the-dumbest-customer-complaints-they-ever-h\/\">not every complaint is reasonable<\/a>. Many &#8212; perhaps even most, it sometimes seems &#8212; are not.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p9_bI789Gog\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If you need to go 100-200 years back to explain why something is &#8220;bad&#8221;, it&#8217;s not bad &#8212; you are just fishing for things to be unhappy about. Focus on what&#8217;s bad <strong>now<\/strong>. Robber barons, for example, are bad &#8212; and you don&#8217;t need a history lesson on the origin of the phrase &#8220;robber baron&#8221; to explain why. Private prisons and the racist impact of Drug Prohibition are both bad &#8212; and you don&#8217;t need a history lesson on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bl.uk\/collection-items\/an-account-of-the-work-houses-in-great-britain-1786\">workhouses<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/transatlantic-slave-trade\">Atlantic slave trade<\/a> to explain why.<\/p>\n<p>History can provide <em>background<\/em> to what is bad <strong>now<\/strong>. It&#8217;s really good for that. What history does not do is make something bad <strong>now<\/strong> merely because of events that took place <a href=\"https:\/\/lifehacker.com\/these-words-and-phrases-have-racist-origins-1823042643\">before any of our grandparents were born<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are legitimate complaints to be made, and there are genuinely bad people who are the reason for those complaints.
