The evil Timmy galaxy

The evil spectre Timmy galaxyHere’s a galaxy that bears a strong resemblance to the evil spectre Timmy, from Mystery Science Theater 300 episode 416, Fire Maidens From Outer Space.

The “fertile constellation of Orion” better stay away from those “hot, young stars”… (buckawow-chicka-wowow).

Madblood: “Sybil’s Sisters Strike Back”

Dr. Madblood (Jerry F. Harrell) gets wedged into a tough spot when the Sybil Of The Swamp (Jewell Willis) puts him in charge of her four striking young student sybilettes, poor man. Is the swamp witch hightailing it out of Pungo to avoid the arrival of a malevolent maestro from warmer climes of a land “down under?” Why does a tete-a-tete with the ghost of Baron von Basketcase (Craig T. Adams) lead to head games that get all blown out of proportion? With most of the household out for the night, how did Max manage to end up with *more* than the usual mayhem at the Manor? Can he endure an evening of nabbing a nameless mind-numbing nemesis?

See where it happens!

Portions of Dr. Madblood Presents are filmed at the Hermitage Foundation Museum, 7637 North Shore Road, Norfolk, VA 23505, 757-423-2052, www.hermitagefoundation.org. Take a tour and tell ’em Madblood sent you! See the doctor there, in person, on Sunday afternoon, October 30!

Don’t Miss “Dr. Madblood Presents” at 8 PM every Saturday on WSKY, SKY4 (On Cox Channel 4; DirecTV and Dish Network Channel 7296).

Selling out for Profit

Profit DVD bannerYes, that’s right: I’m selling out and adding an ad banner to my blog — at least for a while. You see, after I mentioned the very cool and before-its-time show Profit, I was contacted by the distributors, who said they were trying to get the word out on the DVD, and asked if I’d put a banner on my site for a while to help. I said, “Sure!” And so, there the banner is, in all its commercial glory.

So what are you waiting for? Go buy the DVD, already!

Dr. Madblood season premiere

Dr. MadbloodThis Friday, 2005-10-01, Doctor Madblood‘s (Jerry F. Harrell) latest device could put a new wrinkle on sweeping dirt under the carpet, but it only succeeds in making Ernie (Carter Perry), Jinx and Waldo scarce. Dusty (Mike Arlo) is cooking up something in his barn again, as Sybil (Jewell Willis) puts out an All Points Bulletin on the AWOL ghost of Baron von Basketcase (Craig T. Adams). Will Madblood put his house in order in time for Nurse Dream (Penny Palen) to return from her fact finding mission? Inquiring minds want to know. Special Vocalizations by Bernie Melton as PJ the Invisible DJ.

Don’t Miss “Dr. Madblood Presents” at 20:00 every Saturday on WSKY-TV, SKY4 (channel 4 on Cox Cable; channel 7296 on DirecTV and Dish Network).

Next week, October 8th is the “Madblood Day” at the Chesapeake Central Library. Team Madblood will be remembering the doctor’s 30 years in local and not so local TV. The hours are from 09:00 until 16:00 for Monsterfest. There will be guest speakers, discussion panels, costume contest, Madblood Look-alike Contest, exhibits of Madblood memorabilia and cast/crew meet-and-greet opportunities. Brain’s Mobile Gift Shop will be there. Then in the evening, Fantasmo Cult Film Explosion will begin with a screening of Dr. Madblood’s 1984 Halloween Howl (complete with movie)!

Brilliant but cancelled: Profit

Profit on DVDFox has a long history of cancelling brilliant shows. I do not know why. Okay, I know why: it’s a cost/benefit thing. Anyway, some of these cancelled shows are available on DVD. One of the best series that was prematurely cancelled was the Adrian Pasdar vehicle, Profit, and it’s available on DVD. Profit was ahead of its time, and it’s too bad that Fox did not allow the show time to find its audience. Ah, well. The DVD includes all of the aired episodes, as well as four unaired episodes.

Doctor Madblood Presents

Dr. Madblood has been getting pre-empted a lot lately, but a new show is on the horizon:

Doctor Madblood Presents A Tale of Two Satires, July 9, 2005

Madblood: “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To Star Wars”

Dorothy (Jerry F. Harrell), sucked into a scary twister, is dropped into a colorful non-suable parodyland, where she meets a Scarecrow (Carter Perry), a Tin Man (Craig T. Adams) and a Cowardly Loon (Mike Arlo). Oops, no, that would be *three* satires. There was only budget for two. Max Madblood gets a kick out of his trusty Ethermorphic Deceiver and is hurled, along with Tinker Grant, onto the improbable Starship, “Heart of Darkness.” There they meet strange beings from a popular blockbuster film adaptation of a revered cult radio/TV/book classic. As if things aren’t confusing enough, these creatures seem to be moonlighting from their day jobs as characters in another blockbuster summer film. We don’t want to give too much away, but, trust us, this is a Madblood episode you don’t want to hear about secondhand, since it won’t likely be rerun anytime soon. “Help me, Okee Bum Muskogee, help me!”

MST3K Collection Volume 7

MST3K Collection Volume 7Hootie-hoo! I just received the MST3K Collection Volume 7 from Deep Discount DVD. There are some great episodes on this one:

  • Hercules Unchained
  • Hercules Against The Moon Men
  • Prince Of Space
  • The Killer Shrews

Of course, I have all of these on DVD already, thanks to the MST3K Digital Archive Project, but the quality on these Rhino DVDs is much higher. I’ll definitely keep buying the Rhino DVDs as long as they keep releasing them (and hopefully the next generation of DVD players will still play them!). Aside from the quality of the movies themselves, the packaging on these Rhino sets is just awesome. Whoever designs these things obviously has a lot of fun doing it, and I appreciate the effort.

Justice League

I have worked my way through the first three seasons of Justice League (I may or may not start on season 4 tonight). Wow, this is really a good series. Thanks the gods for Shareaza.

There are too many things I like about Justice League for me to list them all, but I’ll list a few. I have never cared for Wonder Woman, but I really like the incarnation of her in this cartoon. The whole Hawkgirl plotline really tugs at my heartstrings. She looks even better without the bird mask. And what the heck is this recurring subplot with the shadow government? Is the Question (other than being brilliantly portrayed by Jeffrey Combs) really right about The Conspiracy?

No, don’t tell me. Season 4 is still under way, and I don’t want to spoil anything. 🙂

P.S. I normally link to Amazon’s page for the various TV shows and movies I watch, but I’m not doing it for Justice League. The DVD releases are way overpriced for what you get. Paying full DVD price for two episodes of a television show is just wrong and stupid. When they come out with the full seasons on DVD at a reasonable price, then I will recommend that you buy them. Not before.

Anyway, this is a great series. If anyone out there has missed it, I strongly suggest you install Shareaza and download the previous seasons while you still can.
